Yesterday, I had mentioned on the two blogs that I'm guest blogging on Digital Photography Blog and Printer Review blog about CNET's "40+ online printing/sharing sites reviewed". Last night, I finally got to sit down and take a good look at the review.

First off, the review was a good a representation of what's available in terms of services. While some have complained their favorites were excluded, it is about virtually impossible to include every single service out there. The authors did a good job reviewing the most popular and well suited sites for photos.

The review also did a great job in breaking down the sites in 4 categories:

* Online photo sharing for snapshot photographers
* Online printing for snapshot photographers
* Online photo sharing for enthusiasts and pros
* Online printing for enthusiasts and pros

This helps the non-pro and pro figure out what service was meant for them. Some services are clearly targeted for basic photo sharing amoungst friends while others are geared towards the pro who needs a professional looking "gallery" to show pictures.

With that said, I felt there were some glaring holes in the review that I felt diluted it's effectiveness.

The first problem I had was a lack of conclusion after listing the sites. The rating system implemented was too generic to really get a feel for who did a better job than the other.

The second problem was the ratings for the printing sites. Again, too generic. As a pro photographer, I especially want to know what kind of problems did the reviewers have with certain sites. Were prints the wrong colors, too bright, too dark and etc. An explanation of what kind of equipment the pro printing sites would help along with adherence to ICC color management practices.

All in all, it was a good start to aggregating the various photo sharing/printing sites out there, however, I hope a followup to this review is conducted to shed more light on what to look for in a site and what some of the sites could do to improve their customer experience.
