Paper planners?!? Yes, I know, your probably thinking the following:
1.) I thought this was a digital photography site.
2.) What are you a luddite?!? Paper? We have PDA's and computers.
Technology
has brought a lot of wonderful innovations, however, it is not the
solution for every problem we run into. Take PDA's. I used to be a big
proponent of them til I realized how clunky they were to use and were
so dependent on battery power. As any digital photographer knows,
batteries don't last as long as they should. Now before I get e-mails
telling me I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm speaking from only
my experience. I know others who have PDA's work for them, and that's
great. But after a while, I realized I started to use my PDA less and
less.
Lately however, a problem that I've
been experiencing has become worse and worse. Organization. Getting
ahead requires good planning and aggregating all your ideas and
strategies in order to see the big picture.
In comes Douglas Johnston and his creation, D*I*Y Planner 2.0. The best part, it's FREE!
Here are a few highlights worth noting from Douglas's blog:
- Over 50 different templates and forms spanning everything from calendars to finances, from project management to reference lists, from notetaking to specialised subjects like web design and story writing.
- A thorough D*I*Y Planner Handbook in HTML detailing:
- how to build a do-it-yourself planner, including getting the right supplies;
- descriptions of all the forms, with many suggested uses;
- a GTD-oriented planner configuration;
- how to print the forms, without wasting paper and ink;
- plenty of tips in setting up and using your system;
- links to other template sites; and
- places to find more information that can help you use or configure your planner.
How convinced am I that this works? I went out to Staples the other day, picked up a planner and started implementing this to great results. I've been getting things done and keeping track of blog ideas and etc. However, nothing will convince you til you've seen it yourself.
